Francisco Mauro in collaboration with Bryce Frank (USDA Forest Service) and Elijah Allensworth (Oregon State University) have developed the R allometric package (CRAN – Package allometric) that has been recently published.
The allometric package is developed to compile and facilitate the use of allometric equations for different forest species around the world. This package has been created in a way that is extensible and that allows each model to be accompanied with: 1) a geographical scope of application that allows choosing the most appropriate model for a given species in a working area and 2) a bibliographic reference that allows users to cite the authors who developed the models they are going to use. Although the package is very recent and will be extended and improved over time, it currently contains more than 2000 models for species from Asia, Europe, North and South America (NA), Africa (AF) and Oceania.
The package has been created to be extensible, which the users can do locally or by contacting the package developers, if they want their models to be included in the version published in CRAN.
Please, if anyone is interested in including their models in the package, you can contact Bryce Frank ( bfrank70@gmail.com) or Francisco Mauro ( francisco.mauro@uva.es) if you prefer communication in Spanish.
To extend the models of the package hosted in CRAN, a way can also be used that does not require contacting the authors directly through the github repository (Instructions here Contributing a Model • allometric.
A tutorial to use the package can be seen in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sCn58rJTl0
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you want to incorporate models that you have developed into the package.
