Last September, the international symposium FloraMac was held in San Sebastián de La Gomera (Canary Islands), bringing together novel and senior researchers who work in different disciplines related to marine and terrestrial flora and vegetation of Macaronesia, a biogeographic region that includes Madeira, Azores Islands, Savage Islands, Canary Islands and Cape Verde.
María A. García talked about the quantitative wood anatomy of 8 dominant tree species of the Macaronesian laurel forests and how these species can adjust their xylem traits to potential shifts in environmental conditions. The results shown in this congress belong to the LAUREL project (https://www.cambiumresearch.eu/research/assessing-the-vulnerability-of-laurel-forests-to-global-change/), which we are carrying out in the Canary Islands, Madeira and Azores.
